  • Toybox Symposium

    Toybox-study final symposium:The future of research on childhood obesity

    What do we know about interventions to prevent child obesity?
    What more do we need to know?

    Friday 11th April 2014

    Brussels, Belgium

    WELCOME

    The International Association for the Study of Obesity (soon to be World Obesity Federation) is hosting a one-day meeting between researchers, research funders, policy officials and NGOs to examine the next steps in child obesity research in Europe.

    The symposium will report the final results of the ToyBox-study, which aims to build and evaluate a cost-effective kindergarten-based, family-involved intervention scheme to prevent obesity for preschool children. Practical implications of these results will be presented. We will also hear the results from a number of other EU projects and future proposals from those who have been involved. Key research funding organisations will be asked to present their priorities for the future with regards to tackling childhood obesity, while representatives from influential European NGOs will be asked to describe the gaps in policy based evidence.

    The gaps and priorities in childhood obesity research that are presented will be discussed with the participants and will inform a briefing paper/call to action which will be published by IASO/World Obesity Federation after the event.

    WHO SHOULD ATTEND

    Obesity researchers; political decision-makers; health NGO representatives; obesity, nutrition and physical activity policy advocates;
